Filmmaker Ana Lily Amirpour made an immediate and bold impression on the film world with her 2014 debut “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”. If you haven’t seen it, please do yourself a favor and add it to your Netflix queue (except actually watch it and don’t just continually add more things on top of it because you’ll “get to it later” like I am guilty of). This year she is poised release an instant classic yet again with “The Bad Batch”.
Set in a post-apocalyptic Texas desert filled with cannibals, the film looks like what happens when Burning Man goes wrong. If the trailer is any indication, this will be a gloriously weird, gory, and wild ride.
Let me go ahead and say what you’re all thinking, “Holy crap, this might be the only good thing Jason Momoa will be in this year!” Yeah, I’m looking at you Justice League, you slithery turd of a comic book movie. Aside from Momoa, I’m stoked to see Keanu Reeves making an appearance, and a little bit of IMDB research tells me that the bearded guy with the awful teeth may, in fact, be Jim Carey!? He’s listed as the character “Hermit” so I could be wrong since we don’t get the best look at him in this but nonetheless it’s an exciting cast.
Keep an eye out for The Bad Batch as it hits limited release on June 23, 2017.
